#1: Starting my second act early
And taking down the urge to procrastinate one sentence at a time.
“Olivia’s second act will be leading some sort of wellness cult…like Gwyneth Paltrow with goop.”
First of all – MASSIVE compliment. Put it on my tombstone!
Second, some context. In a conversation among friends about what our “second act” in life might be, leading a wellness cult came shortly after a comment around me becoming a crucial member of a community, like a bus driver.
And here’s the thing: I hate driving. But I DO love community…
And there’s no time like the present when it comes to building a cult, right?
Enter Measure With Your Heart, my totally non-culty weekly newsletter/blog/brain dump on all things that make my life (and hopefully yours) better. “Measure with your heart” is a phrase I often use while cooking, but I’ve learned to implement it in my life, too. When we know the basic ingredients, we can be a little choosy about how much we add, and if anything extra would be worthwhile.
I’ve been describing this approach to life as landing at the intersection of intention and intuition – and loving that there is room for both within a healthy existence.
This newsletter will be about health and wellness, but not in a cringy “eat less, exercise more” kind of way. I believe a healthy life is a whole life, and I love learning (and sharing) about how to make life more abundant and beautiful, whether that is through the food we eat, the mindsets we hold, the communities we exist within, or a million other areas. Health is not as simple as diet and exercise – and even those pieces are far more nuanced than we tend to give them credit for.
But for today, we’ll keep it at a high level. This will be a weekly newsletter, so there is PLENTY of time to dig in.
If we don’t know each other, I’m Olivia – a Texas-born, NOVA-raised, 20-something who is living, laughing, and loving in Richmond, Virginia. In a past life, I was a Division One lacrosse player, and in a present life, I’m a marketing/advertising professional with a side gig as a travel lacrosse coach. My perfect day would involve moving my body before laying in the grass, drinking kombucha, and laughing uncontrollably at the jokes of the ones I love. My dream life involves winning Survivor, Big Brother, or both, and never driving a car again.

I’m sure that the more I write, the more I’ll get into the specifics of my story, so thank you in advance for your patience! For now, please know that I’m SO excited you’re here, entrusting me with your email address and maybe your eyeballs. I love helping people figure out what a better life looks like for them, and watching them implement it in their own way. PLUS, I’ve been craving some just-for-fun creativity, and writing is always something I’ve wanted to do more of. And even if no one reads it (well, I have a few friends who have promised to read it - so *even if only my three friends read it), I’m happy to have it serve as an artifact of where I was at a certain time and proof of personal and creative growth.
Gratitude all around!
If you’ve read this far…consider yourself a founding member of my cult.
Until next time,
Olivia
